Tatyana Fazlalizadeh
Artist / Author / Cultural Worker
In 2017, I served as the art consultant and lead artist for the Netflix series She's Gotta Have It, directed by Spike Lee. After encountering a Stop Telling Women to Smile installation in Brooklyn, Lee invited me to collaborate on the series, drawing inspiration from the project for a central storyline.
Across two seasons, I created the paintings, drawings, and street artwork for the show's protagonist, Nola Darling. The collaboration brought themes central to my practice, including gender, public space, and self-determination, into a widely viewed cultural platform, extending the reach of the ideas explored in my public art work.
